Job Description
The Vehicle Performance Engineer (VPE) will assume responsibility for the development of the voice of the customer, setting technical objectives, and conducting development/validation testing for an assigned vehicle project. Leading a functional area (Body, Interior, or Electrical), the VPE will oversee the development and execution within that functional domain on a specific vehicle project.
Establishing Vehicle Functional Objectives and Validation Plans (DVP&R), the VPE will play a key role in supporting new feature integration and participating in tech clubs to ensure consistent execution across various vehicle lines. Additionally, the VPE will take the lead in the issue resolution process, assembling cross-functional engineering teams to identify root causes and establish corrective action plans.
The role will also involve leading or supporting ride and drive events, overnight evaluations, validation trips, and pilot build activities. Daily responsibilities for this role encompass, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Interacting with cross-functional teams to communicate performance status and discuss issue resolution
2. Engaging in “Hands-On” vehicle activities such as testing, inspection, and interrogation
3. Benchmarking internal fleet or competitive sets
4. Collaborating with shops to manage vehicle updates
5. Tracking vehicle performance progress using internal scorecard documents and systems
6. Presenting updates to senior leadership at weekly escalation meetings
Qualifications
1. Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
2. 5 years of relevant automotive product development experience
3. Experience working with automotive components/systems/vehicles
4. Strong proficiency in Microsoft computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
5. Strong communication skills with all levels, with the ability to simplify technical issues into meaningful conclusions and recommendations
6. Ability to work in a team, build good working relationships, and gain consensus
7. Self-motivated, able to multi-task, and prioritize workload
8. Valid driver’s license
