Knockbracken Watersports & Activity Resort, Mealough Road Knockbracken Reservoir was built as part of the Macasseys The Mourne Scheme. This was a three-stage scheme to provide clean water to an increasing population and high demand from economic activity within Belfast in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In 1901, stage one was complete. However, as the Belfast population and economic demand continuously increased further over the years, by the 1960s the reservoir became redundant. All reservoirs in Northern Ireland were assessed by Northern Ireland Water and the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2014. Knockbracken Reservoir was 1 of 25 reservoirs to be included on a sale/disposal list. In 2015 Argento Owner and Businessman Peter Boyle purchased the site. Peter had a keen interest in providing a permanent leisure facility in the region. He initially opened the site as a pop-up inflatable water park in 2017 and each year has invested more into the facility to provide Water Polo pitches, Aqua Rugby, Wakeboarding Cable Park and an extensive range of glamping and self-catering accommodation units. Peters vision continuously grows and each year that vision becomes bigger and better Since then Imagine a resort with adrenaline-filled land and water-based activities. With super-sized tents towering among the trees for family get-togethers. Burgers sizzling on an outdoor Summer BBQ. The smell of marshmallows roasting on a fire pit. Imagine a place where wakeboarding newbies and knee boarding curious can try something unique. Imagine exploring 55 acres of lakes and forests, bursting with wildlife. Imagine a place where cable sports connoisseurs could use a £1million, state-of-the-art, 5-corner, full-cable water sports system. Imagine resting your head after a legendary day on a plush pillow in an ultra-modern, cosy bedroom floating gently on a lovely lake. Imagine making memories thatll last a lifetime.
