Alder Close Supported Living & Respite is based in the town of March, Cambs and supports adults with a learning disability to access respite to offer carers a break from their caring role. The role of Support Worker is to enable adults with a disability to live as independently as possible and to enjoy lifestyles as close to those enjoyed by other members of the community. We support and empower individuals to enhance the quality of their life, maximise potential and to continue to promote and develop independence skills within their home or whilst staying at Respite.
Main duties of the job
You will report to the Senior Support Worker and work in a small team providing practical support to our service users, building on their existing skills and abilities whilst respecting their individual needs and choices. This includes supporting with personal care where needed, cleaning, shopping, and accessing community activities and opportunities. The role will also involve administration of medication and preparation of care plans. The working hours for these roles are 21 hours each week, 24 hours each week or 26 hours each week. The shifts are on a 4-week rota which could be subject to change to meet service need. These will be during the week, at weekends or Bank Holidays (between 8am - 10pm). Additional enhancements are paid for weekends and Bank Holidays. You will be required to work two weekend shifts twice each month and complete sleep-ins.
Job responsibilities

You will be using IT to update documents such as support plans, risk assessments and will have a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and assessments of capacity. The starting pay for the posts is £12.85 per hour (£19.27 per hour for Saturday hours- and £22.87 for Sunday hours).
About you
As a Support Worker, it is not essential that you have previous experience of supporting a person with a disability as training will be provided for the right candidate, however, excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as IT skills are required for the role, as is a proficient level of written and spoken English for the purposes of case recording and to enable you to work towards a qualification in Health and Social Care if you do not already hold this qualification. You will also need the ability to demonstrate awareness and understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion, Mental Capacity Act as well as the need for safety and confidentiality in the role.
