Southern Water is recruiting an Instrumentation, Control and Automation Technician to support the processing of water for public use.
As an ICA Technician, you will maintain, repair, modify, configure, commission, calibrate, and install all plant instrumentation, control, and monitoring equipment, shutdown systems, alarms, and telemetry across the Southern Water region in the wastewater function to ensure efficient and effective operation.
This role requires occasional paid out-of-hours work and participation in on-call scheduling.
Your responsibilities include:
1. Fault finding, calibration, testing, investigation, and programming in technical aspects such as telemetry, various flow meters, detectors, control systems, and other measurement meters.
2. Implementing process improvements via control system modifications, diagnosing, and fixing complex process and control system faults.
3. Conducting planned maintenance and calibrating instrumentation to Southern Water standards to ensure reliability and accuracy.
4. Responding to instrumentation faults within Southern Water parameters, as guided by the Regional Control Centre.
5. Undertaking investigative work on instruments and process problems at wastewater plants, identifying faults, and implementing remedial actions.
6. Completing documentation accurately and promptly to maintain internal change control standards, ISO9001 accreditation, and other systems.
7. Implementing control system modifications from operational requests to improve process control or compliance.
8. Coaching and training team members to develop their skills.
Skills and experience needed:
* NVQ3 in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a time-served apprenticeship.
* Experience within a process-oriented industry such as water utility, petrochemical, electricity, manufacturing, or similar.
* Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
* Experience with instrumentation, control, or automation.
* Strong documentation and regulatory compliance skills.
* Collaborative with good communication skills.
* Enthusiasm for learning and growth.
* Full, current UK driving licence.
