HGV Technician
Location: Middlesbrough
Salary: up to £21 per hour – Monday -Friday Days – hours flexible between 6am to 6pm -some weekend availability
Overtime paid at 1.5
My client is an independent transport company, they are seeking a skilled and experienced HGV Mechanic to join their team. The ideal candidate will be dual-trained in both mechanical and electrical disciplines, with significant expertise in working with Scania HGVs. Additional experience with plant equipment and light commercial vehicles is highly desirable. This role requires flexibility, technical expertise, and a customer-focused approach to maintain and repair vehicles to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Maintenance and Inspections:
• Perform 6-weekly safety inspections on both company and customer vehicles, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
• Conduct MOT preparations and presentations, ensuring vehicles meet all regulatory requirements.
• Diagnose and carry out light and heavy repairs, overhauls, and fault rectification on commercial vehicles, including HGVs, trailers, and light commercial vehicles.
• Undertake planned maintenance, servicing, and voluntary brake tests.
• Conduct site-based repairs as needed, responding efficiently to minimize vehicle downtime.
• Support 24-hour breakdown services as required to maintain fleet availability and meet business demands.
Plant and Equipment Maintenance:
• Carry out repairs and maintenance on plant equipment as needed, leveraging prior experience in this area.
• Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify faults and resolve issues effectively.

Skills and Experience Required:
• Proven experience as a Commercial Vehicle Mechanic, with expertise in mechanical and electrical disciplines.
• Strong knowledge of Scania HGVs, with the ability to diagnose and repair complex issues.
• Experience working on plant equipment and light commercial vehicles is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools and modern vehicle systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Required or Desired Qualifications:
Relevant qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
Certification in diagnostic tools or equipment (desirable).
Additional training or certification in plant equipment repair (desirable).
HGV Driving license would be an advantage
