Combating criminal activities in the Insurance industry, sounds awesome, this is done through our Counter Fraud department. As a Counter Fraud Investigator (motor), you’ll manage investigations and provide expertise and guidance into more technically complex matters in an ethical and professional manner. You’ll employ best practice and key investigative competencies to minimise the company’s exposure to fraud. Developing the technical expertise of fellow staff within the Fraud and non-fraud areas and enhance current processes and counter fraud capabilities within the Group to strengthen our fraud control environment. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home in the office moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events. What you’ll be doing: Detect, defend and deter motor claims fraud against the Group to include suppliers, customers and third parties, acting individually or in concert as organised fraudsters. Manage a portfolio of suspected fraudulent claims of all types and managing the same until completion using a combination of investigation techniques at our disposal to embed strong evidence gathering practices to secure the correct claims outcomes – within authority and referral guidelines. Adept use of validation techniques and tools available to validate claims. Develop those at Counter Fraud Investigator level in the use of these and any new tools obtained. Actively seek out and share general intelligence with industry contacts, undertake specific pro-active enquiries based upon the output of data mining / analytics tools where available. Assist police in criminal prosecutions by preparing statements in accordance with relevant legislation and present evidence in court where required. Help in analysing repudiation/walkaway rates/Fraud savings to identify trends and suggest changes in rules/process/identification/investigation opportunities. This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years. What you’ll bring: Practical claims experience essential, Counter Fraud experience desirable and Personal Injury claims experience desirable Knowledge of claims reserving and assessment methodology Expert knowledge of motor insurance principles and relevant legislation, case law, products, policies and claims philosophy. Strong understanding of arbitration, legal liability, the legal environment (litigation approach) and tactics appropriate to customer and third-party claims. Detailed end to end knowledge of claims process including quantum assessment. Track record of interacting with key agencies such as IFIG, IFB, IFED, FOS, Police, (operational awareness) ABI, FSA (strategic awareness). Awareness of broker / Corporate Partner environment and the importance of such relationships. Application of managing the key types of fraud affecting claims handled across AXA UK with excellent knowledge of those affecting specific workstream. Willingness to partake in the ACFS or Counter Fraud Investigator Apprenticeship. Excellent coaching skills. Excellent planning and organisational skills, perceptive and keen attention to detail is essential.
