The role of HCA is an essential part of our GP Practice team who work as a multidisciplinary team to provide a full range of Primary Medical Services. You will be working alongside our friendly and patient-focused clinical team and within a supportive practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, delivering care within your scope of practice to the patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, and patient education.

The main responsibilities for our HCA team is to support the practice team in providing:
* Wound care
* Long Term Condition management
* Health promotion and NHS Healthchecks
* Recording of medical observations

Job responsibilities
The role of HCA involves:
* ECG recording
* Performing routine and opportunistic BP checks, height, weight, BMI & urinalysis
* Undertake NHS Healthchecks
* Basic wound management including dressings and removal of stitches and clips
* Provide adult vaccinations including influenza, covid, shingles, and pneumococcal
* Support practice nurses in providing services for patients with long-term conditions including diabetes and foot checks, CVD, mental health, and learning disability health checks
* Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes with the opportunity to be involved in group consultations
* Stock ordering
The role will include home visits.
A more experienced HCA will also be involved with:
* Chronic wound management including leg ulcers
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE in Maths and English
* NVQ Level 2/3 in Healthcare
* Basic training in Healthcare including phlebotomy and basic dressings
Experience
* Experience in a healthcare setting
* Experience of NHS Healthchecks
* Trained in phlebotomy
* Ability to read and record essential readings such as BP, weight, and height
* Ability to dress basic wounds and remove stitches and clips
* Access to a car for home visits
* Experience of patient care within the care home environment
* Trained to perform spirometry
* Experience of chronic wound management
* Trained in INR Star
