The Bedford-Stuyvesant YMCA is seeking a Youth Coach/Trainer who will be responsible for leading a group or team of teens in a designated sport and progressive skill development. The Youth Coach/Trainer will promote the enjoyment of sports while improving physical competence, developing confidence, and teaching healthy competition.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide a fun, safe, and positive experience for all participants.
2. Demonstrate strong service and hospitality with all constituents, including program participants and parents/guardians.
3. Create an all-inclusive and supportive learning environment.
4. Teach progressive lessons and provide opportunities to demonstrate learned skills.
5. Encourage a lifetime of participation in sports and physical activity.
6. Coach games that allow for equal playing time.
7. Be responsible for team equipment.
8. Work to establish and improve group unity and spirit.
9. Be available for the program on Saturday evenings.
10. Embody the YMCA Core Values.
Desired Skills & Experience:
1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
2. Minimum of two (2) years of experience coaching children/teens in a structured setting. Experience working with teens in a group setting required.
3. Content expert in designated sport(s). Coaching license in the respective sport preferred.
4. In-depth knowledge of sporting strategies.
5. Current First Aid/CPR certifications.
6. Knowledge of youth development stages.
7. Must attend the YMCA Coaching 101 Training within 90 days of hire.
8. Must receive the CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports certificate within 30 days of hire.
9. Must complete the Child Abuse Prevention Training within 30 days of hire.
10. Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.
11. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
12. Must be available to work Saturday evenings.
