Job Description:
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
Duration: 1 st August 2026 - 31 st July 2027
The Women & Children’s Directorate (an Acute Operating Division of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde) is a world leader in the care of child and maternal health services. The Royal Hospital for Children houses many national and regional specialist tertiary services and is located on the South Glasgow University Hospitals Campus.
Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow’s post in paediatric otolaryngology providing training at the level of an experienced specialist registrar. The post holder will benefit from extensive exposure to paediatric airway disorders within the NSD-designated Scottish National Service for Complex Paediatric Airway Reconstruction. The department also undertakes a varied workload of secondary- and tertiary-level paediatric otolaryngology including head and neck surgery, chronic otitis media surgery, bone-anchored hearing aids, and audiological medicine.
The post holder will join a team including seven consultant otolaryngologists, two specialty doctors, two speciality registrars, one GP trainee, one clinical development fellow, two clinical nurse specialists and two complex airway nurse specialists. The department has an associated consultant specialist in paediatric audiological medicine. The department has a developing research portfolio and is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education.
Applications are sought primarily from individuals who hold a CCT or equivalent in otolaryngology and who are looking to gain additional paediatric experience prior to taking up a consultant post. This post, however, carries approval for Specialist Registrar training from the SAC, so individuals not yet in possession of their CCT are welcome to apply as long as they currently hold a National Training Number in otolaryngology and have written support from their programme director and postgraduate dean to take time out of programme.
