Job summary Applications are invited for a Senior Fellow in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. There is an IBD team operating at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals, and on occasions, service commitment may be required, but this post is primarily based at QEHB. This post would commence in Sept 2025 for 12 months. Successful applicants would be expected to partake in IBD focused research and join our already well established research team. This team currently comprises of three research fellows and two post-doctoral researchers which is supported by our GI research nurse team (4 WTE). The department is continually performing clinical service evaluations and leading as well as contributing to national and international projects. Current research focus includes Faecal microbial Transplant, advanced endoscopy techniques in IBD, anaemia in IBD, peri-operative nutritional optimisation and novel therapies in IBD. There is a weekly IBD journal club and regular research meetings with excellent collaboration across the group and with basic scientists at University of Birmingham Main duties of the job This post would provide excellent training to be considered in the future as a consultant with an interest in IBD. The position would enable the successful candidate to develop skills in management of complex IBD (attending sub-specialty clinics, nutritional issues in IBD and surgical liaison) as well as develop research themes and gain publications in peer-reviewed literature and presentations at conferences. There is potential to develop enough publications and evidence to be able to apply for grants and develop a future research post in the trust. In order to develop this opportunity, there is service commitment as a key element of the job: Contribute to once weekly IBD clinic and weekly IBD MDT Attend IBD specialist pouch/PSC/Obstetric clinics Perform elective endoscopy lists independently 1 weekend in 4 (4 sessions) endoscopy- 9-5pm. No out of hours working. Triage of inpatient endoscopy referrals each morning Monday-Friday, 1 week in 4. During this week you may be asked to backfill an endoscopy list if needed.
