This is an exciting opportunity to work with an innovative psychology-led multi-agency team to provide mental health support to children and young people in and around their educational setting in line with the government green paper and NHSE long-term plan.
Senior Education Mental Health Practitioners will work closely with education colleagues to support children's and young people's mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Regular line management and clinical supervision from senior clinicians will be available alongside peer supervision. Post holders will be expected to attend a one-year postgraduate EMHP supervision course with the University of Sheffield, and further training will be available. To be accepted onto the EMHP supervisor course, candidates must attend an interview with the University of Sheffield.
The post will best suit someone interested in community-based work, who can apply their psychological knowledge to an educational context, and who can manage to be both responsive and innovative while being clear about service boundaries and evidence-based, theory-led practice.
Main duties of the job
* Supporting the Senior Mental Health Lead within school to further develop their whole school emotional wellbeing and trauma informed offer
* Deliver group and one-to-one evidence-based, theory-informed interventions
* Development of resources and training for school staff, children and young people, and parents and carers
* Offer mentoring, supervision, and training to the Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) within the team.
* Taking a specific lead role within the service
* Recording and reporting on activity and outcomes
* To work at all times within the guidance provided by the employer to appropriately manage clinical risk and safeguarding procedures and ensure good clinical governance.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* CYP IAPT CWP supervisor training or willing to undertake it.
* Evidence of further training in one other psychological intervention
* A qualification or substantial experience in Professional Supervision
Experience
* A minimum of four years' experience of working with children and young people with common mental health problems.
* Demonstrable post-qualifying experience (2 years) in developing and delivering the range of evidence-based low-intensity interventions
* Skills and experience of working with parents/carers
* Experience of planning and delivering whole school emotional wellbeing activities
* Experience of delivering training to a range of professionals.
* Experience of communicating evidence-based theory-led information to a diverse range of audiences
* Experience of working with risk and knowledge of safeguarding procedures within health and education.
* Experience of service delivery via a digital platform
* Experience of working within an educational setting
* Experience of negotiating, problem-solving, and relationship management where there are disagreements or resistance within systems
* Skills and experience in delivery of group work
* Experience of mentoring Trainee EMHPs
Knowledge
* Theoretical and practical clinical knowledge of Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
* Working knowledge of how Mental Health Support Teams can contribute to early intervention and prevention in children and young people's mental health
* Understands the need to meet national and local KPIs and fulfil reporting requirements
* Knowledge, skills, and experience of working with CYP with increased complexity within the remit of low-intensity mild-moderate services and adapting interventions accordingly
* Knowledge of the Healthy Minds framework and its underlying theories
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent interpersonal skills appropriate to working across complex and highly sensitive environments and with different audiences.
* The capacity to adapt core psychological approaches to the whole school culture
* Ability to use outcome measures for both clinical and audit purposes
* Ability to work independently within the aims of the service and under the direction of line manager and clinical supervisor
* Ability to be self-reflective
* Frequent concentration required and ability to respond in the moment to clinical queries
* Higher level IT skills for development of creative resources and training materials
* Higher level research skills and use of appropriate IT packages and good report writing skills

* An understanding of the context of Mental Health Support Teams services within CAMHS and the wider multi-agency network
* Knowledge, skills, and experience of giving appropriate constructive feedback to professional colleagues at a range of levels in the system, and of following necessary procedures when required
