Job Description: Depot/Tanker Manager (Water/Wastewater Sector/Drainage) Position Title: Depot/Tanker Manager Location: Grays, Essex Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 Job Type: Full time About the Role: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Depot/Tanker Manager to oversee the operations of our depot and tanker fleet within the water, drainage/wastewater sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day running of the depot, ensuring efficient and safe operation of the tanker fleet, and coordinating all logistics, maintenance, and compliance aspects of water, wastewater and drainage collection and transportation. Key Responsibilities: Manage the day-to-day operations of the depot, ensuring the efficient running of the tanker fleet. Oversee the scheduling, coordination, and dispatch of tankers for water, wastewater and drainage collection, transportation, and disposal. Ensure that all tankers and vehicles are regularly inspected, maintained, and serviced in accordance with company policies and industry regulations. Implement and maintain health and safety procedures within the depot and ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards specific to the water, wastewater and drainage sector. Maintain and update records related to vehicle maintenance, inspections, fuel usage, and regulatory compliance. Coordinate with other departments, such as operations, health and safety, and customer service, to ensure that tanker routes and schedules meet operational and customer needs. Ensure compliance with all legal and environmental regulations regarding the transportation and disposal of wastewater and water materials. Manage and develop a team of depot staff, including drivers and maintenance personnel, providing training, performance reviews, and ensuring adherence to operational standards. Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and operational reviews of the depot and fleet operations. Assist with budget management for depot and fleet-related expenditures, including maintenance, fuel, and staffing. Ensure the depot and tanker operations are equipped with the necessary tools, resources, and safety equipment to perform tasks efficiently and safely. Person Specification: Essential Criteria: Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in fleet management, logistics, or operations management (e.g., CILT, IOSH, or equivalent). Valid driver’s license, preferably with a Category C (Heavy Goods Vehicle) license Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations specific to the water, wastewater and drainage sector. Experience: Proven experience (5 years) in depot or fleet management, preferably within the water, wastewater or drainage sectors. Extensive experience managing tanker fleets, including scheduling, maintenance, and operational coordination. Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations related to transportation and waste management. Experience managing a team of drivers, engineers, and other operational staff, with a focus on performance management and development. Previous experience working with water, wastewater and drainage systems, including the transportation and disposal of materials, is highly advantageous. Skills: Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide staff to meet performance targets. Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage schedules, resources, and logistics efficiently. Good knowledge of fleet maintenance procedures and best practices, including vehicle inspection and repair management. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with customers, colleagues, and contractors. Familiarity with fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) for reporting and record-keeping.
