Responsibilities
* Company Policies: Manage and follow the quality, health, safety, and welfare policies of the company
* Lead the packaging and integration across a vehicle programme, ensuring compatibility of systems
* Support for styling feasibility on a full vehicle project, providing packaging/manufacturing information enabling styling to resolve production issues and confirm hard points
* Take responsibility for a vehicle and manage the sub zones, providing packaging support to the wider design & engineering teams
* Have a general understanding of Automotive legislation and be able to drive the vehicle layout with respect to items such as vision angles, head impact zones and other key criteria.
* Support projects in its initial stage and follow the project through the design process
* Support the department manager to meet programme/project targets and be a primary interface to the team
* Lead the team through idea generation and problem resolution through day-to-day working and structured Design Reviews. Guide engineers implementing GD&T into designs
* Work closely with the Engineering Analysis team (FEA) to meet design targets and drive the most cost-effective solutions
* Work closely with Manufacturing to agree feasible manufacturing solutions and to control the engineering change process. Ensure Design for Manufacture (DFM) philosophy is integrated into designs
* Communicate with the department manager to ensure you have the required level of support and help when required
* Support Programme team to ensure project deliverables are achieved
* Maintain communication with internal and external customers on a regular basis
* Lead the sign off process for whole vehicle package in line with NPI guidelines
* Participate in formal and on the job training which will be provided regards the use of software and design techniques.
* Support and mentor the engineers within your team with your experience and knowledge
Essential Skills
* Engineering degree or equivalent within a relevant subject
* The vehicle packaging engineer will be experienced in vehicle design and manufacturing techniques to ensure support on multiple projects
* Lead level experience and Knowledge within the Vehicle Packaging discipline
* Strong Understanding of CAD and CAE Literacy using Catia V5
* High level of Engineering design knowledge
* GD&T, can demonstrate good understanding
* Ability and awareness of design to manufacturing process
* Understanding importance of managing engineering change requests and claim management
* Ability to work efficiently within your role
* Understanding of budget management
* Strong communication skills
* Excels in organisational skills and time management
* A drive to learn and improve at every opportunity
* Willingness to support others
* Positive attitude towards mastering challenges and changes.
Desirable Skills
* Experience preparing and managing a budget
* Experience of leading a team of engineers
