We are currently seeking a resilient and empathetic Domestic Abuse Support Officer to join our Housing Options Team. This role focuses on assisting individuals and families affected by domestic abuse, helping them to navigate their housing options effectively. Key Responsibilities: Support: Provide support to individuals and families who are at risk of homelessness or currently experiencing homelessness due to domestic abuse. Housing Guidance : Help victims understand and explore their housing options, working alongside housing officers. Holistic Approach : Support survivors of domestic abuse, whilst also recognising the needs of other household members, including children, to ensure comprehensive care. Empowerment : Enable individuals and families to live free from domestic abuse, fostering their confidence and independence through suitable support. Risk Management : Collaborate with victims to develop and implement effective risk management and safety plans, including referrals to relevant services. Referral Pathways : Proactively promote and facilitate access to specialist domestic abuse services, creating robust referral pathways. Advocacy and Rights : Inform and advise victims and survivors of their rights and available support options, advocating on their behalf to navigate barriers to assistance and protection. Respect : Treat all service users with dignity, respect, and empathy, fostering a safe and supportive environment. Awareness and Training : Act as an advocate for raising awareness of domestic abuse within the housing sector, providing training and guidance to housing professionals through peer support and shared expertise. Requirements : Relevant Experience : Demonstrable experience working with individuals affected by domestic abuse. Communication Skills : Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling the development of rapport with service users from diverse backgrounds. Teamwork and Initiative : Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and take initiative in managing a caseload. Housing Awareness : Understanding of homelessness and housing issues, with a commitment to addressing these challenges sensitively. Empathetic Approach : Compassionate and commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals and families. IT Proficiency : Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Driving License : A valid driving license and access to a vehicle is essential for community-based work. Work Environment : The role involves both office and community-based work.
