The post holder will be involved in setting up the psychological provision for cancer services within the area. This will involve working closely with the relevant MDTs, developing a local plan and pathway, input to meetings and clinics, offering training and supervision. The role will also involve patient work, including psychological assessments (including for suitability for surgery), signposting and intervention. We are also recruiting to a 7/8a post, to work alongside the 8b, as well as an assistant to support with the development of the service. Main duties of the job As a new post there will be the opportunity to work closely with the cancer services within UHL, as well as Macmillan and other organisations offering support to cancer patients to determine how to set up this new service. The 8B psychologist will be supported by a band 7/8a psychologist and an assistant. As well as determining the local plan and pathways the successful candidate will look at supporting staff within the local services, potentially through training and supervision, offer input to MDTs, alongside offering direct clinical assessments and intervention where appropriate. The post holder will be well supported by Macmillan, as well as joining a growing medical psychology team, with excellent processes and resources already in place. With multiple new posts in the region in cancer services there is already a network of support and supervision, to ensure that the candidate has good links with other psychologists and services. Our well-established Department of Medical Psychology. The department is friendly, supportive, and flexible. The team includes clinical psychologists, trainees, assistants, and excellent admin/clerical support. We place great emphasis on supervision and personal development, which is possible through working within a psychology department. We meet regularly for case presentations, clinical governance, and business meetings. We also have a monthly peer group meeting and regular time-out to enable reflection and service development.
