Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Castle Point Borough Council to recruit a Waste & Recycling Supervisor on a full-time, permanent basis.

The Opportunity
To supervise all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Waste Management Service within
the Borough ensuring all tasks are completed in an efficient manner in accordance with
departmental policies and procedures.
The post holder will supervise a large number of full time staff and agency staff, therefore require
strong staff management and development skills to ensure operations run smoothly and
efficiently
Accountabilities Included but not limited to
1. Supervision of a large number of permanent and agency refuse staff and the day to day running of the household and trade waste collection service
2. Ensuring Drivers comply with Drivers hours and Driver defects are checked and filed at the end of each day
3. Ensure all Staff comply with Health & Safety and training, including training Agency staff. Ensuring PPE is worn and any issues are well documented and recorded.
4. Undertaking proactive and effective communication with the Workshop Fleet Manager regarding defects, ensuring vehicles are delivered to the workshop for services or MOTs in a timely manner and that they arrive clean and tidy.
5. To investigate and respond to complaints or ensure complaints are appropriately escalated.
6. Stock control of items such as food waste bins and bags, refuse sacks, garden waste bins, trade bins and uniform/PPE.
7. Reporting to the Waste Operations Manager on a daily basis
8. Conducting site visits for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to, site suitability and requirements, complaints and to assess bulky or special collections
The Experience You Will Bring
9. HGV Class 2 licence
10. Experience of running a busy waste service, including staff and fleet.
11. Supervisor skills and experience of working within the waste industry in Local Government or the private sector.
