The lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all students by overseeing pool activity and enforcing all rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Oversee pool activity and ensure safety of all class participants.
* Perform rescues in the event of drowning or swimming accidents.
* Perform first aid and CPR according to the demands of adverse situations.
* Ensure an appropriate headcount of people involved in a watersport.
* Check safety of rescue equipment and perform needed maintenance.
* Ensure that all pool equipment is stored safely.
* Maintain constant surveillance of individuals in the pool area; act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of individuals in the event of an emergency.
* Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
* Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain a high standard of customer service.
* Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
* Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports.
* Work as a team member.
* Assist with lunch duty or bus duty when available.
* Attend staff and in-service meetings as appropriate.
* Perform additional duties as requested by the School Program Director, i.e., classroom aide when the pool is closed.
* Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the diverse cultural backgrounds and practices of the students, staff, and families of the School of the Holy Childhood.
* Other duties may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Candidates for this position will have: the ability to demonstrate and provide examples of continuous personal development and improvement; communication skills (verbal and written); a thorough knowledge of water safety practices, rules and regulations, and water rescue and first aid procedures and techniques. American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification, American Red Cross CPR, AED and First Aid certifications, and the ability to maintain all required certifications/trainings by State regulations. Must have the ability to achieve Certified Pool Operator (CPO) status.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma required and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
