Job Description:
Our Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Plan sets out our Vision, Ambitions and Values that enable excellent care for our patients and service users. A collaborative, person-focused approach is at the very centre of everything we aspire to achieve, and necessary to deliver care that is high quality, compassionate, safe, and effective. We continue to work towards having a diverse and inclusive culture for people who work for us and use our services. We want everyone to realise their full potential and make a positive contribution. We encourage applications from people from all backgrounds and communities. We are committed to supporting the development of a nursing and midwifery workforce that is made up of diverse skills and experiences.
We are looking for a motivated and experienced Band 3 Clinical Support Worker to join the Stoma and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Team based in the Colorectal Unit at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. The post holder will be responsible for looking after a case-load of patients who are having surgery for bowel cancer and other bowel or urology conditions.
The role primarily involves supporting people who have a stoma, including day-to-day care and helping patients to manage their own stoma care whenever possible. Some patients may also be part of an enhanced recovery (ERAS) programme which involves getting patients up and about quicker following their operation. The post holder will work within a specialist team and will be involved in many different types of patient care.
The colorectal unit in Edinburgh is the largest unit of its kind in Scotland, providing many opportunities to learn and understand the care of surgical patients and patients with a stoma. The input of the ERAS and stoma team is invaluable to these patients and the surgical team, especially following discharge home when patients often need the most support.
The post is a fixed-term 1 year position for 34.5 hours per week, operating Monday through Friday with no unsociable hours. The shift pattern includes 3 nine-hour shifts and one seven-and-a-half-hour shift: 07:30-16:30 for three days and one day from 07:00-15:00.
Interviews are anticipated to take place on Wednesday 9th April at the Comely Bank Centre.
If you are an internal NHS Lothian Band 3 candidate, we will not proceed with shortlisting and interview; instead, you will move to our internal transfer process.
