Main duties of the job
* Deliver a high standard of nursing care without direct supervision based upon a sound evidence base.
* Undertakes and documents a comprehensive, systematic and accurate nursing assessment of the physical, social, and spiritual needs of the patient where appropriate.
* Creates and utilises opportunities to promote health and well-being of patients in their care.
* Take responsibility for the clinical leadership and direction of the Emergency department.
* Work within the NMC Guidelines and Trust Policies recognising one's own abilities and limitations.
* Daily running of a busy emergency department.
* Assist the Head of Nursing/Matron to review staffing requirements using a proactive approach to retention and recruitment of staff.
* Lead the investigation of complaints and clinical incidents related to own clinical area and ensure learning is shared with own team and the Trust.
* Maintain awareness of the department's finances.

Job responsibilities
* Support Matron & leadership team.
* Lead a number of nurses and develop their skills and practices.
* Partake in audit and present findings.
* Support junior staff.
* Ensure well-being of staff and patients.
* Assist the Head of Nursing/Matron to review staffing requirements using a proactive approach to retention and recruitment of staff.
* Support the Head of Nursing/Matron to initiate and implement improvements using a systematic approach.
* Undertake annual reviews for staff and identify learning needs of the ward team, developing training plans to submit to the Matron.
* Ensure own competence and personal development plan is reviewed and discussed with the Matron annually.

* Registered General Nurse

Experience and Knowledge
* Minimum 2 years at band 6 within an emergency setting.
* Demonstrate commitment and ability to support staff teaching, research & education.
* Proven leadership skills, including team building and change management.
* Demonstrates the ability to effectively manage resources.
Personal Qualities
* Ability to work flexible rostering with appropriate notice to meet operational needs of the organization.
* Responsible.
* Ability to work under pressure.
Skills and Abilities
* Able to maintain professional appearance. Physical capability to perform nursing duties, including moving and handling of patients.
* Evidence of innovation within current areas of practice.
