Job Description:
The Royal School is a small, independent, co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 9 – 18. The school is academically ambitious for all its pupils and the size of the school ensures that every member of staff knows and cares for every pupil. We are seeking a Teacher of Science to teach up to A level Physics or Biology to inspire and encourage a passion for learning and to achieve their very best in the subject of Science.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Learning
1. To possess and maintain a deep and secure knowledge of your subject and the best practice pedagogy associated with its delivery.
2. To create a challenging and stimulating classroom climate that will motivate pupils to learn, think independently, take risks, empathise with others, and perform to the best of their abilities.
3. To support every pupil in their learning, making them feel included, secure and valued.
4. To be consistent, fair and create an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect.
5. To be aware of the learning needs of the pupils you teach and ensure that each pupil is given every opportunity to fulfil their potential.
6. To monitor progress against prior attainment and employ effective intervention strategies when required.
7. To follow the guidance and schemes of work provided by the Head of Department.
8. To plan and deliver inspiring lessons.
9. To undertake high quality preparation, marking and report writing, in line with School policy, so that pupils achieve the highest possible standards.
10. To make use of the school's online learning environment consisting of Microsoft Teams and OneNote as well as subject specific online resources.
2. Pastoral
1. To conduct yourself in an appropriate professional manner at all times, supporting and fostering the aims and safeguarding policies of the School.
2. To be prepared to take on the role of Form Tutor, which will encompass academic, pastoral and administrative responsibilities.
3. General
1. To contribute to the organisation and running of co-curricular and enrichment activities.
2. To uphold the School’s code of conduct and the values of The Royal School.
3. To maintain good order and discipline amongst pupils and be active in implementing the School’s policies for rewards and sanctions.
4. To attend formal parents’ evenings and maintain effective communication with parents, as appropriate.
5. To attend staff and departmental meetings, as required.
6. To undertake supervisory duties, as required.
7. To mark entrance papers and occasional vacancy entrance exams, as required.
8. To carry out any such duties as may be reasonably requested.
4. Professional Development
1. To contribute, as appropriate, to departmental policies, schemes of work, digital learning resources as well as development planning.
2. To be an active participant in CPD training opportunities, sharing best practice with colleagues, as requested.
3. To participate in the annual performance review, appraisal and development programme.
