To provide administrative and legal support, primarily to the family and litigation department but also to others if requested and to contribute to the effective operation of the Litigation Department and the firm as a whole. Key Responsibilities of a Legal Assistant • Answering the telephone/taking messages/making appointments • Dealing with clients and other people calling at the office • Progressing cases as requested by the fee earner • Word processing; Sending and receiving e-mails; Filing papers and computer documents; Photocopying, faxing and scanning; Linking incoming post to appropriate case files; Sending and receiving letters and faxes; Liaising with court staff and other third parties as required; and Other tasks as required by the fee earner. Key Competencies of a Legal Assistant • Good working knowledge of Computers and Word software • General administration/office skills/telephone skills • Time management skills and ability to prioritise own workload • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English both spoken and written • Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with clients • Ability to work as part of a team • Experience of using office equipment, e.g. photocopiers, scanners, fax machines • Diary management and organisational skills • Knowledge of forms/layouts used in legal documentation • General knowledge of the legal and court systems relating to Family and Civil work Due to the large volume of applications we receive for each position we will only be able to respond to applications received with the relevant skills.
