An opportunity has arisen to join our team at Colchester General Hospital. We are inviting applications for a part-time post, Consultant in Neurophysiology. Applicants will have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR) and must be on the Specialist Register.
The proposed timetable is indicative of the work required but is flexible depending on service needs and interests of the applicant. The job plan will be reviewed annually and will cover all aspects of a consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education, and managerial responsibilities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder's duties will be at the Colchester Hospital but their presence may be required in other parts of the Trust. This post is a replacement of a retired consultant and is designed to cover (5 PAs) at Colchester Hospital. The post holder will be responsible for providing and developing the full range of neurophysiological procedures and delivering a modern and efficient Clinical Neurophysiology service.
This will include neurophysiological tests for investigating peripheral nerve and muscle disease, electroencephalography, evoked potentials, and other tests of the central nervous system. Responsibilities will also include the supervision and training of clinical physiologists in the department, in association with the department clinical manager. There will be a commitment for time off in lieu (such as weekend work).

Job responsibilities
The Post Holder will assist in the development of clinical services achieving locally and nationally agreed standards.
CLINICAL DUTIES:
1. Contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and efficient Clinical Neurophysiology service.
2. Ensure adherence to clinical and quality standards set out in the Patients Charter and local purchasers contracts.
3. Liaise effectively and timely with all practitioners who refer patients for investigation and treatment.
4. Encourage and foster clinical governance at clinical, managerial, and medical levels and participate in regional audit.
5. Participate in the management of the Department and liaise closely with the General Manager and Clinical Director.
6. Engage in continuing medical education activities in line with Royal College of Physicians guidelines.
7. Take responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including administrative duties associated with patient care.
8. Lead and ensure proper functioning of the services in his/her charge in line with Trust policies.
9. Participate in clinical audit.
10. Proactively participate in the management and development of clinical neurophysiology services.
Person Specification
* Practice MBBS or equivalent MRCP
* CCT (or entered on GMC Specialist Register for Clinical Neurophysiology) achieved, or within 3 months of completion
* Specialist training in Clinical Neurophysiology
* Peer-reviewed original research publications
