Main Duties of the Job
We're looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our UKAS accredited department of laboratory medicine as an Associate Practitioner. This is an exciting opportunity to broaden your experience - working in a modern and well-equipped laboratory, providing an extensive repertoire of investigations.
Job Responsibilities
The Biochemistry team is a diverse group of all different grades of Scientist and practitioners, working together to further healthcare and provide the best service possible for patients. As part of the role, you will be required to work 37.5 hours per week (typically 7.5hr shifts between 8am and 8pm), including flexible cover of weekends and bank holidays. Southampton Biochemistry lab is one of the largest labs in the area and provides a significant amount of specialist testing. Our service is always expanding and looking to make improvements. Initial training will be in clinical biochemistry, with future pathology training given as required by the needs of the service. You will make critical decisions about workflow, perform complex manual testing of specialist samples, communicate with wards and doctors, and contribute to providing a high-quality service which consistently delivers on its turnaround times for critical samples. There may be the opportunity for applicants holding an IBMS approved Biomedical Science degree to complete their registration portfolio. You will need to be:

Qualifications / Training Required
* A level or equivalent in at least two from Maths, English and Science at level A to C
* ECDL or equivalent knowledge of computers
* Previous knowledge of hospital IT systems
* Completion of an internal multidisciplinary laboratory training course
Previous or Relevant Experience Necessary
* Previous experience in laboratory work
* Knowledge of genomic processes
* Previous experience in an NHS environment
* Previous experience of performing genomic procedures
* Previous experience in a diagnostic medical laboratory
Aptitudes and Skills Required
* Able to follow operating procedures
* Able to prioritise work and adapt to changing circumstances
* Effective team member

Salary: £26,530 to £29,114 a year (Per Annum, Pro Rata)
