JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Registered Nurse Accountable to: Nurse Manager/C.O.O Qualifications: Registered General Nurse Diploma in Nursing Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing Master’s Degree in Nursing Hours : Full Time - 37.5 hours per week across a 5 day working week ( 1 in 4 weekends must be worked) Responsibilities To act at all times in accordance with the Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA) Code of Practice and the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct. To promote and maintain a high standard of patient care at all times. Ensure patients are compassionately and effectively cared for. To communicate effectively with all members of the Unit and promote teamwork. Establish and provide good relationships with patients and their relatives. Reporting condition or concern regarding patient(s) to medical staff and ensure that received instructions are carried out promptly and satisfactorily. Ensure that patients are protected from unnecessary physical and mental disturbance hence ensuring his/her safety and well-being at all times. To understand the need for and keep accurate documentation in all aspects of patient care. Increase knowledge of fertility treatment to assist patients in their understanding of this complex treatment. Act appropriately in emergencies or stressful situations. To update regularly on cardiac arrest, fire procedures and mandatory training. To promote the Unit and its role in the private as well as the NHS sector. To present in full uniform and with smart appearance at all times when on duty. To have and implement a full knowledge and practical skills in relation to infection control. Understand the concept of whistleblowing and report any concerns to nursing line manager. Understand the concept of safeguarding and reportany concerns to nursing line manager. Arrive at work on time as per allocated shift on the rota and report to line manager by phone call any absence at least one hour before shift. Attend in house training. Effective time management to avoid patient delays and efficiency in service. Ensure registration and revalidation with the Nursing and Midwifery Council is updated and registration active continuously. It is the responsibility of the registered nurse to ensure registration is confirmed on revalidation and can provide evidence to their employer. Maintain security of medicines by adhering to CLIQ key operations system as per individual nurses allocated CLIQ key. Duties Clinical Performing experienced competent phlebotomy as per the medical request accordingly. Ensure all samples are labelled clearly in full, requests are logged and entered on ideas and samples put for forward for collection by the courier Chaperone for other staff. Understand and implement the role of the chaperone Assist with data entry e.g., entering ultrasound measurements Perform decontamination on trans-vaginal probes between scans Use aseptic techniques when assisting with invasive procedures Keep clinical areas clean and tidy Effective waste management in compliance with protocols Safe sharps disposal Effective hand washing as per guidelines Nurse consultations with patients, perform injection teaching sessions, give, and receive consent forms and update checklists on ideas Perform all screening and update checklist. Advise patients of outstanding results and document. Report abnormal results to the medical team and relay instructions Set up patients for treatment schedules. Book all appointments as per protocols. Advise patients on medication regimes and administration To answer queries and where possible reassure patients undergoing treatment or awaiting outcome of treatment Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, displaying empathy and compassion in person and on the telephone Give clear instructions on treatment and treatment plans Liaise with medical team on daily reviews. Document and give clear instructions to patients Update treatment cycle summaries as per review. Enter data in treatment plan, book theatre and embryo transfers as per protocol. Liaise with theatre manager regarding male procedures or abdominal egg collections prior to trigger Have a thorough understanding of in-house consent forms and HFEA consent forms Demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of the drug regimens and clinical protocols for each treatment Be competent in basic life support and assist calmly in an emergency situation Stock medication in clinical areas Safe handling and dispensing of medication as per medicine management protocols Administering medication with patient consent Advise patients with positive pregnancy tests ongoing care plan and protocol. Liaise with medical team regarding specialist testing or referrals Ensure IDEAS orders and emails are reviewed daily and completed as soon as possible Ensure phone messages are checked hourly Monday to Friday and patients calls returned at earliest opportunity At weekends the emergency phone shall be answered, and calls returned whilst in clinic Non-Clinical Manage the stock room when deliveries are made and rotate stock accordingly Complete daily quality management checks in each clinical area Check emergency equipment is functional and complete and ready to use in a case of an emergency Complete medicine management daily quality management checks Have a good working knowledge of IDEAS Demonstrate clear concise documentation Ensure clinical areas are stocked well Report to nurse manager when stock needs ordering Assist with pharmacy quality management by doing stock takes andchecking prescriptions against pharmacy sales for the nurse manager Liaise between multidisciplinary teams regarding a patient’s care Liaise with outside agencies e.g., Andrology solutions, Reprogenetics Oxford Report Birth outcomes to CRGH quality and communications officer Report cancelled cycle to CRGH HFEA EDI officer Liaise with satellite clinics regarding patients treatment Liaise with homecare medication suppliers, send prescriptions by efax and chase deliveries Attend clinical and non-clinical meetings as required Maintain security and lock building, alarm, and close shutters on leaving premises Refer to counselling and promote counselling services. Ensure counselling has been offered to patients using donor gametes Analytical and judgemental skills: required for assessing and interpreting specialist acute and other patient conditions e.g., O.H.S.S. and appropriate action Takes responsibility, with colleagues, for the teaching of qualified and unqualified staff Acts as an effective role model To lead the development and evaluation/audit of relevant protocols, guidelines and policies based on current evidence and research and facilitate/support other staff to do the same To be responsible for own time management, to ensure effective and efficient time management to cover own specialist workload Accountable for own professional actions, when giving advice at nurse consultations therefore having freedom to act autonomously Reporting of accidents/incidents involving patients, visitors, or staff Is aware of financial considerations and judgements to maximise cost effectiveness and cost efficiency Is aware of financial considerations and judgements to maximise cost effectiveness and cost efficiency.
