We’re looking for a skilled and highly motivated Senior Architect to help Nationwide’s People (HR) and Business Services domain define and realise its strategic outcomes through IT change and innovation.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at either our Swindon or London office. Whilst these locations are where we are primarily looking to fill the role, if you’re an internal applicant based in a different location we would welcome your application and if successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this could work for this specific role.
What you'll be doing
Working as the Senior Architect you will be accountable for defining the target IT architecture and roadmap for our People, Business Services and Chief Operating Office business functions. This is a large and diverse portfolio of technologies and business processes. You will define the target states, raise relevant architectural questions and develop associated transition states.
You will do this in conjunction with Product Owners from those business areas to ensure that the product is continually developing and delivering the right business value. You will be able to influence at a senior leadership level, helping to align business and technology goals and outcomes.
You will also work with our Engineers and Project Managers to ensure that the products can be delivered. Where necessary you will structure and run proofs of concept to trial solutions before full scale delivery.
As a People Leader you will oversee and guide the work of Solution Architects and Engineers.
About you
You’ll be an individual who is armed with demonstrable experience as an Architect with a focus on technical architecture (software and hardware), as well as the processes and data required to ensure full value is delivered. As the Senior Architect for People, Business Services and Chief Operating Office:
* You’ll be familiar with architecture frameworks and methods to successfully deliver change and have experience of working in a complex environment.
* You will feel comfortable with business concepts across People (HR) and Business Services, including experience in implementing, supporting HR systems in large organisations.
* You will have hands-on experience configuring software used in the People/Business Services industry (for example Oracle, Coupa and ServiceNow) as well as the middleware used to integrate such software capabilities into the rest of the enterprise.
* You will be an experienced people manager with a track record of coaching and leading architects and engineers and driving their performance as a team.
* You will be experienced in working in hybrid teams of designers, engineers, and testers.
* You will have experience in the integration of Financial Services organisations.
Our Customer First behaviours are all about putting customers and members at the heart of how we work together. You can strengthen your application by showing the behaviours that resonate with you, and how you might have already demonstrated these.
* Say it straight - This is about being honest and direct with good intent and saying what needs to be said in the room. It’s also about being clear, precise, and using language that we and, importantly, our customers and members can understand.
* Push for better - This is about aiming high and constantly looking for better in how we work together and serve our customers and members.
* Get it done - This is about prioritising what will have the greatest impact, being decisive and taking accountability for delivering on the end-to-end outcome.
