About this client/child:
Jacob is 5 years old and lives at home with his Mum, Dad and younger sibling in Southfields. He is the very heart of a loving and supportive family and has a dedicated Care Team in place providing 2:1 support day and night. Jacob will give a big smile when you play games with him, and he enjoys watching sensory lights. Jacob sustained a Perinatal Hypoxic Brain Injury at birth resulting in profound developmental delay, and complex care and medical needs. He has dystonic cerebral palsy, a PEG in situ, epilepsy, and requires regular suctioning. He receives a high level of support from multiple medical professionals and teams. Jacob is totally reliant on others to meet all his health, care and medical needs.
Overview of role:
The Complex Care Support Worker will work 1 day, and 1 waking night shift each week. Jacob is unable to verbalise so it is vital his care needs are anticipated. Due to his significant medical care needs, bespoke training is provided; however, you must come to this role with a strong background in complex medical care. There is an established routine in place for both days and nights, you will also be working alongside a team member, unless you support Jacob at school as this is based on 1:1 support. The night is very active, with regular monitoring, repositing, personal care etc. Jacob requires one person at his bedside all night, and at times two. The morning routine can start as early as 5.00am. Jacob's care team is led by a Nurse and supervised by a Case Manager. The rota is provided 4 weeks in advance. Further information is available on the job role and responsibilities on application.
Who this job would suit:
You will come into this role with excellent experience supporting a very young child with complex medical needs. You will be compassionate, thoughtful and have a nurturing nature. You must see Jacob for who he is, not his condition / diagnosis. You must also be a team player, as this is a team that supports each other and continuously work towards giving Jacob every opportunity.
What's great about this job:
There will be ongoing training, reviews, and support by the Team Leader and Case Management team. Jacob is an adorable little boy, and you will be very fortunate to be a part of life and dedicated care team.
