Outpatient Specialist Neurological Rehabilitation and Environmental Controls
Permanent full-time: 37.5 hours per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to work across two specialist services at the Colman Centre for Specialist Rehabilitation. We are looking for a highly motivated and dedicated Occupational Therapist who is keen to develop specialist skills in complex neurological rehabilitation and environmental controls. Both teams are based in Jubilee House at the Colman Centre in Norwich and provide a range of interventions within the clinic setting and in patients' homes.
The neurological rehabilitation role will include providing cognitive, vocational, and upper limb rehabilitation to patients (aged 16 and above) who have complex needs following an acquired brain injury. You will be working as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team including Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Rehabilitation Nurses, and Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine.
The successful applicant will require excellent communication skills, an aptitude for problem-solving, and be highly effective in managing a case load. They will play a key role in facilitating patient groups and be required to liaise with other agencies such as a patient's employer when supporting their return to work.
The current Norfolk and Waveney Environmental Controls Service is expanding to provide a service to patients living in Suffolk. We are, therefore, looking for someone to join the team at this exciting time in our development. The post holder will need to have an interest in technology and be eager to learn more about this ever-evolving specialism. You will work with children and adults with severe physical disabilities.
Both teams provide regular peer support and learning opportunities. Participation in external specialist interest groups is also encouraged.
It is essential that you hold a full UK driving license. Regular driving across Norfolk and Suffolk will be required.
Main Duties of the Job
* To assess and prescribe care packages for patients with complex rehabilitation needs.
* To work within the MDT to facilitate timely discharge from in-patient or outpatient service.
* To work within the MDT to support patients in the community and prevent unnecessary admission to hospital.
* To work with all health care professionals, and statutory and voluntary agencies to provide a seamless, integrated service to our service users.
* As required, provide support to other services across the Colman Centre for Specialist Rehabilitation Services.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
* Current HCPC registration
Experience
* Evidence of working at a minimum of Band 5 level with a variety of post-registration experience in inpatient, rehabilitation, and discharge planning.
* Post-registration clinical experience of patients with neurological conditions.
* Knowledge of additional specialist areas through in-house training & short courses.
* Awareness of alternative communication strategies for patients with neurological conditions.
* Previous clinical experience in a neurological rehabilitation setting.
* Training/clinical experience in: postural management, splinting for abnormal tone, cognitive rehabilitation, wheelchair prescribers course.
* Experience of managing challenging behaviours.
* Experience of working with patients with tracheostomy.
* Experience with running groups.
* Experience in delivering specialist bespoke equipment to highly complex patients.
