Do you have knowledge of nuclear sector requirements for ventilation systems\? Experience working on nuclear ventilation plant layout and assembly? Strong proficiency in engineering calculations and system schematics? If your answer is yes, we would love to hear from you so please read on for further information and get in touch now to avoid missing out The Opportunity Our client is seeking an experienced Principal HVAC Engineer to join our client’s growing team, contributing to the delivery of exciting and significant projects in the highly regulated nuclear sector. As a Principal HVAC Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, high-quality, and timely delivery of HVAC systems for complex and critical infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with both internal teams and clients, offering expertise in HVAC design, installation, and operation, ensuring compliance with stringent industry standards and regulations. This is a great opportunity for professionals looking to apply their expertise in an innovative, collaborative, and dynamic environment. Your duties and responsibilities will be 1.Ventilation Systems Design: Designing HVAC systems with an understanding of containment philosophy and principles. Working on cooling industrial process environments, considering various system types such as air/water-cooled condensers, heat pumps, and heat recovery systems. 2.Steam System Design Design and implement steam systems, which are integral in certain industrial and power environments. 3. Technical Deliverables: Producing system schematics and Engineering Flow Diagrams (EFDs). Psychrometric calculations to assess air and moisture content in HVAC systems. 4. Plant Design & Decommissioning: Experience or familiarity with Alpha plant design and decommissioning redundant plant. A good understanding of the specific needs for nuclear ventilation systems. 5. Documentation & Compliance: Prepare and check technical files and deliverables. Ensure Design for Assembly practices are followed, particularly in the context of nuclear facilities. Ventilation engineering calculations and design checks. 6. Stakeholder Management & Communication: Liaise with key stakeholders and different design disciplines. Report writing: Ability to document technical findings clearly and concisely. 7.Communication skills: Ability to work closely with team members and clients, ensuring alignment and progress tracking. 8. Time & Cost Management: Handle time and cost constraints, ensuring the completion of tasks while managing project resources and deadlines. 9. Workload Management: Capable of managing your own workload and driving the completion of the scope of work effectively and efficiently. You will have the following qualifications & experience Degree or Equivalent Qualification: A Degree in Building Services Engineering is preferred, but a minimum HND combined with extensive industry experience is also acceptable. This ensures that the candidate has a solid foundational understanding of engineering principles and practical application. You must be able to obtain SC-Clearance. Industry Standard Software Proficiency: Hevacomp, Revit, and Pipenet are key tools in HVAC and building services design, especially for system modelling, piping network design, and energy calculations. Experience with these tools indicates the ability to design and simulate various aspects of HVAC and ventilation systems effectively. Thermal Modelling Experience: Thermal modeling experience would be an advantage, as this is critical for understanding heat flow and energy use in HVAC systems, especially in regulated and industrial environments like the nuclear sector. Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with EG_0_1738_1 - a standard related to Ventilation of Radioactive Areas - is important for this role. It highlights the need for awareness of specific regulatory and safety standards when designing ventilation systems for nuclear facilities. Experience in a Regulated Industry: Demonstrable experience in a similar role/environment, especially with recent exposure to work in a regulated industry (like nuclear or another highly regulated sector), is essential. This ensures the candidate is familiar with stringent regulatory compliance and safety protocols. AutoCAD Expertise: Understanding AutoCAD and its capabilities is required for producing detailed layouts and technical drawings, which is a critical part of system design and documentation. Other Skills and experience Knowledge of nuclear sector requirements for ventilation systems. Familiarity with Alpha plant design (preferable but not essential). Strong proficiency in engineering calculations and system schematics. Experience in producing technical files and ensuring compliance. Experience working on nuclear ventilation plant layout and assembly.
