The Trust is seeking a Specialty Doctor to join our inpatient ward based at Beechlydene, Fountain Way Hospital, Salisbury.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience and knowledge working within an established multi-disciplinary team, treating a range of acutely unwell patients. You will work with a team that believes in collaborative work and places the patient at the center of their practice.
This post will provide support and clinical assistance to the Consultant Psychiatrist concerning the care of patients.
The post holder will be encouraged and supported to pursue existing or new interests such as appraisal work, specialty doctor development, and/or consider progressing towards RC status.
Main duties of the job
1. To assess and treat service users on the Ward.
2. Under Consultant supervision, to be responsible for the day-to-day continuing assessment, management, and treatment of these patients.
3. To make regular records in the patient's notes and, following consultation if necessary, regularly update the treatment plan.
4. Attend the Consultant ward round/attend MHA tribunals if appropriate.
5. To take part in the discharge and after-care plans for each patient.
6. To liaise with GPs regarding service users' medical monitoring results.
7. To liaise with other parts of the service and GPs and non-NHS organisations wherever applicable.
8. To provide advice and consultation to members of the multi-disciplinary teams and regularly attend Ward rounds/MDT meetings.
9. Ensure effective and timely documentation and communication of clinical decision making and management plans.
10. The Specialty Doctor will support the Consultant Psychiatrists in complex case management.
11. The post holder is expected to seek Section 12 approval ASAP.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Basic Medical Qualification (MBBS or equivalent).
* Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Section 12 Approval.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice, or eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of confirmation of appointment.
* Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in Psychiatry or as a fixed-term specialty trainee in Psychiatry; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
Skills
* Ability to manage own time and workload and prioritise clinical work.
* Ability to appraise own performance.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills.
Research and Audit
* Ability to critically appraise published research.
* Experience of carrying out an audit project.
* Experience in involvement in a research project and publication.
* Interest in research.
Knowledge
* Up-to-date knowledge of issues in Mental Health Service for this specialty.
Teaching
* Commitment to teaching other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
* Teaching of undergraduate students.
* PGCME or equivalent/aspiration to attain a postgraduate teaching qualification.
