About the Role
We're offering a unique opportunity to be engaged in an exciting growth phase of our business. We have a clear strategic plan and are executing this successfully. Our business has doubled in size organically in the last two years and we now need an Engineering Manager to look after the project management and engineering aspects of the business.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, qualified mechanical engineer with a strong track record of managing the delivery of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic manufacturing and refurbishment projects. This is an exceptional opportunity, to play a pivotal role in a growing company and be part of a dynamic, fast paced management team.
The role reports to the Projects Director and will directly line manage the Project Engineering team consisting of 8 individuals.
Tasks & Responsibilities
* Take responsibility for all engineering aspects within the business.
* Line management of engineering team.
* Manage the production of concepts to support project tendering
* Lead client and supplier meetings where required.
* Manage the delivery of design, manufacturing and refurbishment projects.
* Ensure legislative requirements for all manufacturing projects are met and ensure that all relevant engineering standards are complied with.
* Manage project budgets.
* Approval of engineering documents including drawings, mechanical and hydraulics calculations and FEA reports.
* Work with operations management to ensure production capacity planning suits project schedules.
* Produce and maintain an accurate invoicing/ milestone achievement forecast.
* Procurement approvals.
Essential
* You must be a driven team player who is mechanically minded with an excellent attention to detail and a genuine passion for engineering.
* Minimum Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng / BSc Hons)
* A high level of competence and experience in:
- Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
- Producing engineering drawings
- Designing mechanical systems
* Clear track record of being responsible for the design and delivery of new build equipment, from concept to as built.
* Capable of carrying out various engineering calculations by hand.
* Capable of using an FEA software (preferably Autodesk Nastran) to carry out analysis on mechanical components.
* Understanding of UK industry standards and directives associated with company work scopes including:
- PED/ PESR
- Machinery Directive/ Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations
- ATEX
- DNV-ST-E271/237
* Experience of designing and manufacturing products including but not limited to: Electric/Diesel/Pneumatic Hydraulic Power Units, Umbilical Reelers, Spooling Units, High Pressure Pump Units, Mechanical handling equipment.
Preferred
* Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Project Management (Meng / MSc)
* CEng Professional Status
* Competent with the design of hydraulic systems.
* 5 years experience leading a project management/ engineering design function.
