GSL Education has an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and caring SEN School Care Worker to join a welcoming school in Portland. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in care work, SEN support, or social care, who are committed to helping children with a range of additional needs to thrive in an educational setting.
About the Role:
As an SEN School Care Worker, you will work closely with students with a variety of special educational needs, including autism, learning disabilities and physical or emotional challenges. You will provide individualised care and support to ensure students can access their education and feel safe, valued and supported at all times.
Responsibilities of SEN School Care:
* Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with special educational needs in a safe and nurturing environment.
* Assisting students with personal care such as toileting, feeding and dressing as required.
* Helping students engage with learning activities and encouraging participation in the classroom.
* Supporting students with mobility needs and assisting in moving and handling activities.
* Implementing individual education plans (IEPs), ensuring students’ needs are met and progress is tracked.
* Supporting students with social, emotional and behavioural challenges using positive reinforcement and appropriate strategies.
* Monitoring and reporting on student progress, providing feedback to teaching staff, parents and external professionals.
* Promoting a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where all students can thrive and feel valued.
What We’re Looking For:
* Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN in an educational, care, or support role is highly desirable.
* A relevant qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Health and Social Care, or SEN is advantageous.
* A solid understanding of SEN strategies, including autism support, sensory integration, PECs, or Makaton, is beneficial.
* A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach, with the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build meaningful connections with pupils, staff and parents.
* A commitment to inclusive education and a passion for helping young people achieve their potential.

* Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
* Have an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or be willing to apply for a new one through GSL Education.
