Role: Assistant Head of Year
We are excited to partner with a leading Secondary school seeking a dedicated Assistant Head of Year to join their team and support the management of their Year 10 cohort. This role is essential for maintaining a positive learning environment and ensuring that every year 10 student has the opportunity and resources to succeed.
About the Role:
The Assistant Head of Year will be essential in helping the Head of Year create a great educational experience and positive outcomes for a specific group of students, while also focusing on their wellbeing. The right person will support the Head of Year in leading the team effectively, setting a clear vision, and pinpointing areas that need improvement. They’ll also help foster a positive and ambitious vibe within the Pastoral Team. Additionally, this role involves coordinating the year team’s efforts to align with the school’s and national policies, ultimately supporting the overall progress of the students.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support staff in developing good behaviour and discipline strategies so that they can support pupils’ progress.
* Take an active part in the professional welfare and development of the tutor team.
* A combination of mentoring, coaching, pastoral support, behaviour management and counselling across the Year 10 cohort as and where appropriate.
* Provide clerical support, including data entry and attendance management.
* Lead on the monitoring of attendance and punctuality to identify students who are a concern and take the initiative to follow up verbally and/or in writing with students, parents and appropriate staff.
* Assist with the organising and running of after school detentions.
* Take individuals and small groups for a range of intervention and mentoring strategies.
* Liaise with SENCO, Counsellor and other professionals to monitor students receiving additional support. Make appropriate referrals as guided by the Head of Year.
* Contribute to the maintenance and management of all records for students in the year group.
