An exceptional opportunity to join Cotswold District Council as an Assistant Conservation and Design Officer. You will be assisting in providing conservation and design advice, to promote sustainability and high-quality design in new developments, as well as ensuring that our precious historic environment is enhanced and protected.
Our Natural, Built and Historic Environment Service is fundamental to the success of the council’s ambition for a sustainable future – protecting and enhancing the best of the past, while looking to the future and addressing the climate and ecological emergencies.
As an Assistant Conservation and Design Officer, you will be collaborating with property owners, developers and other partners to protect and enhance the unique historic environment of the Cotswolds. We would particularly welcome applications demonstrating experience and expertise in retrofit and the decarbonisation of historic buildings.
This post could be a great start on a conservation and design career for a recent graduate with a conservation-related degree and enthusiasm for the subject. There will be opportunities to increase your skills and expertise.
The main areas of work will include:
Providing technical and administrative support on conservation and design issues
Advising colleagues, Councillors and the general public on straightforward conservation and design matters
Assisting in providing historic building conservation advice at all stages in the planning process, from general pre-application enquiries and listed building consent applications to condition compliance etc.
Acting as Case Officer for stand-alone listed building consent and other related applications.
You will need…
Relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent or BTEC, HND, HNC,NVQ level 4/5
GCSE Maths and English or equivalent to grade C/4 or higher
Some experience of working in a paid or voluntary conservation related role
Knowledge, understanding and experience of conservation and design, preferably including those relevant to the planning system
Experience of working flexibly as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders and working independently
Special Conditions…
Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
