Job Title: Underwriting Team Leader Location: Fleet Hours: Full-time The Underwriting Team Leader role To manage an underwriting team daily to ensure staff are trained and competent to deliver professional, efficient and high standards of customer service to customers, intermediaries, valuers and solicitors. Ensure that targets and objectives are met whilst ensuring adherence to all Fleet Mortgages policies and procedures. Assist the Assistant Underwriting Manager to maximise team efficiency by assisting with team training. Help protect Fleet Mortgages from fraudulent activity and act in a compliant manner at all times in line with regulatory guidelines. Some of your day-to-day: Directly manage a team of Underwriters who have varying levels of experience and expertise. Work closely with all peer groups within the Company to maintain good relationships Responsible for standard of service and response times provided by own team Responsible for recruitment, training and development of own team Maintain own caseload of work alongside managing team Motivate the team to maintain high morale, low absenteeism and turnover Coach and support team members and colleagues to help them achieve their objectives and to build a high-quality team Monitor and manage team performance and discuss underlying trends with Pre-Offer Management team Lead, coach and develop team to manage performance by conducting and documenting monthly performance reviews Monitor individuals’ performance and ensure quality audits are carried out and provide feedback and take appropriate action Actively develop staff and ensure the required training and development is identified and prioritised to meet business needs As a line manager evaluate and challenge team performance and business practices against industry best practice Expected to support the Assistant Underwriting Manager to oversee additional hours worked by the teams outside of normal office hours Work to agreed objectives, service standards, and deliverables Ensure relevant documentation and information received is checked for adherence to policy and criteria Ensure both self and team adhere to internal/external compliance, credit review and audit requirements Oversee and act as a referral point for own team on more complex cases Experience required: Proven underwriting experience gained from working for a mortgage originator Proven people management experience including mentoring/coaching new team members and developing existing team members Must have held a lending mandate in the last 5 years Ability to communicate effectively at all levels Excellent planning and organisation skills Excellent communication, coaching and feedback skills CEMAP qualified, working towards or a willingness to study Willingness to commit to continuous professional development as required
