Job overview
Our HSDU Decontamination Supervisor is responsible for providing a decontamination service within Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and other specialist users outside the organisation as in accordance with the Medical Directive 93/42 EEC, EN13485: 2016.
They will work as part of a team in the decontamination unit to assist in the day to day running of the department through supervising/training team members to undertake decontamination duties in all areas of the re-processing of Medical Devices by the receipt, wash, assembly, pack, sterilisation, delivery and tracking and tracing process in accordance with policies and procedures, to both internal and external customers, providing a safe product for use in direct patient care.
The shift pattern is for the following:
* Monday to Friday 1600-2400
* One weekend in four with days off in lieu.
Responsibilities
* Training and supervision of staff in all areas of the re-processing of Medical Devices ensuring a safe product for use in direct patient care.
* To work in accordance with the organizations/departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance by self and others.
* To supervise, support, organize and allocate work to New/less qualified staff.
* To ensure the team objectives are achieved and customer requirements are met in the agreed turnaround times.
* To monitor the quality of products by carrying out regular quality checks and discussing with the Operational Manager any non-conformities and the appropriate course of action.
* To perform a full range of decontamination duties, and be able to work in all areas of the decontamination process.
* Keep records up to date in own area of work and raise any concerns with a member of management.
* Plan workloads for Technicians through the duty rota.
* Undertakes training to support the role.
* Carry out internal quality audits.

Person specification
Qualifications and training
* GCSE Maths and English level C or above
Knowledge and experience
* Good knowledge of all areas of decontamination.
* Understanding of Health & Safety processes.
* Experience of department tracking information systems.
* Ability to multi-task.
* Good understanding of the requirements of a Quality Management System.
* Experience of working within a team.
* Broad range of instrumentation knowledge.
* Able to train others.
Specific Skills
* IT and keyboard skills to use word processing and windows.
* Practical experience in decontamination.
* Ability to plan and organise priority workloads.
* Ability to undertake and report on initial investigations on any staffing issues.
