Person specification
Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
1. General medical Qualification e.g. MBBS, or equivalent and hold a Licence to Practise.
2. MRCPsych or recognised equivalent, e.g. membership of a psychiatry college in another country.
Desirable criteria
1. Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
2. Additional clinical qualification.
Eligibility
Essential criteria
1. Must be in possession or within 6 months of possession of a CCT in Psychiatry or on Specialist Register in Psychiatry.
2. On Specialist Register in General Adult Psychiatry.
3. Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician approval or ability to obtain approval before starting post.
Desirable criteria
1. Experience of medicine outside psychiatry e.g. general practice, medicine.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
1. Excellent knowledge in specialty.
2. Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement.
3. Excellent clinical skills using bio-psychosocial perspective and wider medical knowledge.
4. Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
5. Make decisions based on evidence and experience including contribution of others.
6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desirable criteria
1. Teaching Experience.
2. Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within the NHS or comparable service.

Supervision of Junior medical Staff
Essential criteria
1. Knowledge of requirements for supervision and appraisal of junior medical staff.
2. Approved educational supervisor training.
Research and Audit
Essential criteria
1. Experience of carrying out an audit project.
2. Experience or involvement in a research project and publication.
3. Ability to supervise junior medical staff undertaking research projects.
Desirable criteria
1. Published audit project.
2. Ability to critically appraise published research.
