The post holder will work closely with the cath lab manager and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent clinical standards of nursing practice and staff development as part of the cath lab team. Also, act as a care team leader ensuring the needs of the patients are met.
Supporting and deputising for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in the clinical management of the clinical area. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in conjunction with the cath lab sister/charge nurse in emergency or unforeseen situations.
To be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of all staff by acting as a mentor with the support of their senior colleagues.
To take part in the on-call / out of hours rota on a regular basis.
The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures, supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area.
Main tasks & responsibilities:
1. In partnership with other professionals provide excellent patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the Trust policies.
2. Following training and reaching a satisfactory level of competence, will operate medical equipment pertaining to the Cath Lab.
3. Ensure that nursing documentation is maintained to the Trust standard (including electronic records).
4. To assist the catheter laboratory Lead nurse / Sister in implementing, evaluating and maintaining a departmental ethos and a standard approach to the delivery of excellent nursing care.
5. Provide a holistic approach to patient care and maintain excellent clinical standards of nursing practice.
6. Promote awareness and compliance amongst colleagues regarding Trust policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.
7. To actively participate in the Trust’s framework of clinical governance within the ward or department area.
8. To provide a suitable and safe environment for the physical, psychological and spiritual well-being for staff, patients/clients and their relatives/carers.
9. To occasionally take charge of the clinical area, utilising resources effectively and ensuring that safe staffing levels are maintained.
10. To actively promote a healthy lifestyle for patients and staff in line with national strategy requirements.
Communication:
1. To demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients/clients, visitors/relatives and colleagues.
2. To work cohesively with all members of the team in ensuring that the very best services to patients are provided at all times.
3. To deputies in the absence of the Catheter Laboratory Manager / Lead Nurse for the coordinating of catheter laboratory activity.

1. Actively manage own annual leave in line with Trust and local Policy and Procedure.
2. Participate in the programme for clinical supervision as required.
3. Maintain a personal, professional profile, identifying role and skill developments in line with the Scope of Professional Practice.

1. To work together with the team to ensure effective use of resources & adequate stock levels.
2. To Help and assist the Cath lab Manager / Lead Nurse to recruit, retain and select staff within the budgeted establishment.
Service development:
1. To contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment for colleagues, patients and visitors.
2. To participate in staff education and development, including orientation and supervision and act as a mentor and a resource for learners and the nursing team.
Policy development:
1. To be actively involved in the implementation of Trust policies and procedures at ward / department level, reinforcing their use.
Information management:
1. Participate in the collection of audit and research data as required.
2. To have an active intranet and email account and adhere to the Trust’s Information Service and Information Governance Policies.
