Senior Private Sector Housing Officer 37 Hours per week, Permanent £43,693- £47,754 per annum It’s an exciting time to join the Housing team at Wychavon and Malvern Hills District Councils In this newly created post, you will lead our Private Sector Housing team in delivering an effective and customer focused service with the aim of achieving safe, warm and decent private sector housing stock across the two districts. The role is varied and no day will be the same - you will provide expertise in the Private Sector Housing function, including interpreting and advising on legislation, leading on relevant service projects and effective partnership working. You will be responsible for developing the council’s long term strategic vision and approach for private sector housing - to drive up standards and energy efficiency of homes, ensuring a proactive approach to identifying and licensing houses in multiple occupation and caravan/camping sites and bringing empty homes back into use. You will also have a key role in the performance and financial management of the Councils home improvement agency contract and the delivery of disabled facilities grants. To be successful, we are looking for a dynamic and organised individual with experience and knowledge across all aspects of the Private Sector Housing function, including formal and informal housing enforcement, houses in multiple occupation, disabled facilities grants, caravan/camping licences, empty homes and improving energy efficiency of homes. Applicants must have a degree or masters in Environmental Health or Housing Health and Safety Rating system trained or experience in managing a Private Sector Housing team. The role also involves leading, empowering, coaching and motivating the team along with providing day to day supervision, guidance and support. Having effective leadership skills with a friendly and professional approach is therefore essential. About you The successful candidate will have: A degree or master’s degree in Environmental Health or Housing Health and Safety Rating system trained or experience in managing a Private Sector Housing team. At least 3 years experience working in a housing or environmental health environment or similar field Knowledge and understanding of legislation affecting this area of work e.g. Housing Act 2004 Experience of maintaining a strong customer focussed environment Experience of working with multi-agency partnerships Experience of presenting information to a wide range of audiences Excellent communication skills with an ability to deal with people in difficult situations and to handle confrontation tactfully Highly developed I.T. skills and experience of implementation of new I.T. systems. Outstanding customer care and a commitment to supporting performance improvement. Able to lead a team and can demonstrate previous experience in managing and motivating staff You will also need to be able to travel throughout the districts so flexibility, a full driving licence and use of a car is essential.
