Band 6 role is subject to the trust probation process; for those that do not have EPAS competencies, essential achievement of these is required to meet the needs of the role.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS) for a Registered Nurse. This position is part time based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, but will be expected to work cross site once competencies have been met.
Working within a small team, the successful applicant will have an interest in complications of early pregnancy and in making a difference in patient care for ladies who may be going through an emotional and distressing time.
The successful applicant will have extensive gynaecological knowledge with a general understanding of early pregnancy, be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the team and service, be competent to undertake venepuncture, and be prepared to undertake bereavement training. Within the developing service, the opportunity to undertake sonography training is the future service vision.
Main duties of the job
* To provide a dedicated service to women and their families who experience pregnancy-related problems up to 16 weeks gestation.
* To provide highly sensitive information about options of care to women who have miscarried, have a non-viable pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy or trophoblastic pregnancy.
* To provide reassurance and ongoing support to women who have pain/bleeding with a viable pregnancy.
* Interpret blood tests and scan reports for early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.
* Request blood tests.
* To work autonomously across both sites.

You will be required to work with the Lead EPAS Nurse, Lead EPAS Consultant, and Clinical Nurse Specialists within the team, ensuring all Trust targets are achieved with patient safety being a priority.

Knowledge and Experience
* Recent experience in Gynaecology
* Working as an effective member of the MDT
* Able to work on own and under pressure
* Up-to-date knowledge of current issues in early pregnancy
* Experience of caring for patients and relatives undergoing pregnancy loss
* Participation in audit and research
* Teaching others
Skills
* Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care according to their individual needs
* Ability to be compassionate
* Work with others in a team
* Ability to deliver highly sensitive information in an emotive situation
