About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.
About the team
The exterior lighting team is currently delivering highway street lighting designs for several major highways projects including for Connect Plus Services on the M25, for the M42 Junction 6 improvements, and for the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet scheme. The team is also delivering lighting designs for HS2 and for Associated British Ports at Port Talbot. The team is involved in several aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) designs for airfield clients and producing environmental lighting impact assessments. The team supports Mott MacDonald’s international project portfolio, which currently includes active projects in the Middle East.
Overview of role
We are looking for a dynamic and well-motivated Senior / Principal Lighting Engineer with a genuine passion for lighting design and analysis. The role is to support our growing workload of exciting projects in the UK and worldwide.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on challenging and dynamic external and street lighting schemes, general electrical design and environmental lighting impact assessments. They will also have the opportunity to get involved in our growing aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) delivery.
We are seeking a person who is enthusiastic about joining a team of talented lighting engineers and will coordinate design delivery for a variety of clients in different environments e.g. street lighting asset management, Design & Build, design direct for public sector clients etc.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to act as discipline lead, whilst working alongside less experienced members of the team, using your experience to mentor and develop engineers, apprentices and technicians to diversify the team’s workload and provide opportunities for growth and team development.
Key elements to successfully fulfil the role are:
Technical Excellence
* Design of new and replacement street lighting schemes to BS5489-1:2020 and infrastructure schemes to BS EN 12464-2-2014.
* Design and verification of general low voltage (L.V) private cable networks.
* Production of contractual documentation.
* Undertaking visual site inspections and surveys.
* Proactively solve project and technical challenges with the ability to produce and check design and report-based deliverables.
Successful Project Delivery
* Ability to multitask and plan for successful outcomes in a high volume, fast paced work environment.
* Comply with relevant procedures including Health and Safety and CDM Regulations 2015.
* Achieve client satisfaction, trusted partner relationships and secure repeat work.
Leadership & Management
* Support the team leader to maintain a collaborative and inclusive culture.
Candidate Specification
Candidates should have:
* Demonstrable knowledge of lighting and electrical design, plus environmental lighting guidance in addition to associated design standards and guidance.
* Experience using design tools e.g. AutoCAD, Lighting Reality, AGI32, Civil 3D and Trimble ProDesign.
* Experience preparing detailed design and construction drawings, standard details and technical specifications.
* BTEC Level 5 / NVQ / Bachelor's Degree Electrical / Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
* Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with full ILP membership.
* G39 Electrical safety in the planning, installation, commissioning and maintenance of public lighting.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng).
* Approved person under National Highways Sector 8 Scheme Highway Electrical Registration scheme (HERs).
* Completion of full ILP Exterior Lighting Diploma (or similar).
