Shared Lives Carer recruitment
Shared lives is a national scheme that offers a unique community based model of care and support whereby Shared Lives Carers open their home to vulnerable adults in need of support. Shared Lives can be an alternative to supported housing or residential care.
The Merton Shared Lives Scheme currently has 49 bed spaces across the Borough but is hoping to expand in order to offer more placements to those in need.
Shared Lives Carers can choose to offer long term or respite support to individuals who are:-
1. an older person living with dementia
2. a young person in transition from foster care
3. someone with a learning disability or physical impairment
4. someone living with mental health needs
5. someone who is leaving hospital but not quite ready to go home
Being a Shared Lives carer is a rewarding job and can be done by anyone who:-
6. has some form of care experience- whether it be personal or professional can communicate effectivelyis flexible, committed and caringhas one to three spare bedrooms, andlives in Merton
The Shared Lives Scheme would be especially interested to recruit those who:-
7. Have experience in caring for those with Learning Disability or Autism
8. Have experience in caring for those with challenging behaviour
9. Have a ground floor bedroom with ground floor access to a bathroom/toilet
