ABOUT THE ROLE
As a result of continuing business growth and increasing client demand, there is an exceptional new opportunity for a Director of Building Surveying. This role focuses on expanding the dilapidations service line and delivering work for high-profile investor, institutional logistics, and retail clients. The Director will help lead the dilapidations service line across our clients national portfolio, building strong relationships with both internal and external investment and institutional clients to provide market-leading consultancy advice.
In addition to growing the service line, the Director will work with existing clients such as Railpen, Aviva Investors, Legal & General, Grainger, Knight Frank Investment Management, GIC, abrdn, and M&G. They will deliver on a range of high-profile projects across various sectors, including industrial, office, purpose-built student accommodation, and build to rent.
As a commercially focused consultant, the Director will help grow our clients Dilapidations services, maintain and strengthen client relationships, and diversify the current service offering while advancing their career. The Director will be expected to help lead the service line and support the following activities:
– Coordinate business development, marketing, resourcing, and knowledge sharing across all offices.
– Champion the service line internally, driving improvements to working practices, including templates and quality control.
– Advocate for and oversee operational and process improvements, promoting innovation and new working methods.
– Drive and manage consistency and adherence to best practices.
– Promote the service line externally to new and existing clients, supporting marketing efforts as needed.
– Identify service line priorities, link them to the business plan, and update annually.
– Set and deliver SMART actions for the service line, providing quarterly progress updates.
– Celebrate service line successes both internally and externally.
– Ensure marketing materials, such as case studies and capability statements, are up to date.
– Develop a community of practice and share knowledge across the firm.
– Support the development of other professionals within the business.
Key Accountabilities and Deliverables:
– Manage and drive the firms dilapidations service, leveraging technical expertise and commercial acumen to complement the existing team across the UK.
– In addition to hands-on delivery of a wide range of Building Surveying services, the Director will work with the dilapidations Senior Director to develop and implement a business plan for dilapidations across the portfolio.
– Support the management and development of the technical team to deliver high-quality dilapidations services to existing and new clients.
– Deliver end-to-end building surveying services.
– Achieve performance targets, including fee delivery and business development.
– Liaise with Service Hub Leaders across Built Asset, Development, and Engineering & Sustainability to align services with strategic goals and performance standards.
– Effectively network with existing commercial clients and achieve agreed targets.

REQUIREMENTS
Performance Criteria:
– Hold a relevant degree equivalent qualification and MRICS.
– Personable and confident with industry contacts.
– Deliver high-quality technical services, demonstrating expertise in dilapidations.
– Gain client trust regarding commercial confidentiality and serve as a direct contact for instructions.
– Demonstrate leadership abilities, influencing and responding constructively to challenges.
– Possess an existing client base in building surveying and dilapidations with the potential to generate new work.
– Meet financial targets (2.5 base salary for Directors) and support and manage the performance of others.
– Engage with the team to secure work and deliver profitability.
