Role Overview
An Alternative Provision School in Birkenhead is looking for a committed and enthusiastic Health and Social Care Teacher to join their team. This part-time role offers a rewarding opportunity to support Key Stage 3 and 4 students who have faced challenges in mainstream education. The successful candidate will deliver engaging lessons that not only educate but also inspire and empower students to achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver engaging Health and Social Care lessons tailored to students with varied learning needs and educational barriers.
* Assess, track, and report on student progress, setting realistic goals to support academic growth.
* Adapt teaching strategies to address students’ social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
* Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that encourages learning and personal development.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff, and external agencies to implement effective learning strategies.
* Build strong, positive relationships with students, helping them overcome obstacles to learning.
* Uphold the school’s ethos by maintaining a supportive and respectful learning environment.
* Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and extracurricular activities where appropriate.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will:
* Be resilient, empathetic, and passionate about supporting students with additional needs.
* Have strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Be adaptable and creative in their teaching approach, recognizing that each student is unique.
* Have experience working in alternative provision or with students who have struggled in mainstream education (desirable).
* Remain calm and patient, with the ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively.
* Be committed to helping students grow both academically and personally, enabling them to reach their full potential.
Qualifications and Experience
* A recognised teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent) is essential.
* Experience teaching Health and Social Care or a related subject at secondary level.
* Knowledge of SEMH needs and strategies to support students facing these challenges is highly desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
