Technical Design Manager
Location: Ulverston, on the edge of the stunning Lake District. We are a two-minute walk from Ulverston train station which offers great transport links from within Cumbria and Lancashire.
Hours: Full-time/37 hours per week, Mon-Fri

The Role
As the Technical Design Manager your responsibilities include:
- Providing technical leadership, meeting customers and suppliers, balancing technical and commercial needs, and conducting product development reviews
- Managing and ensuring LED Technology and associated product developments are delivered to specification, on-time, and on-budget. This includes problem solving, managing departmental KPIs and the running and continuous improvement of our design and prototype manufacturing processes
- Working closely with our manufacturing partners to ensure products are designed for cost-effective and efficient volume manufacture. Periodic supplier and customer visits (foreign and domestic) will be required to ensure alignment between design and manufacture is maintained and improved
- The line management of the technical team, capacity, and capability planning, supporting the recruitment process of technical roles and conducting regular employee performance reviews
What we are looking for in the successful candidate:
- Highly experienced, ideally from within an electro-mechanical or electronics industry
- Previous experience in a senior position, preferably in an SME, with line-management experience an advantage
- A good degree in a relevant electro-mechanical or electronic engineering discipline
- Experience of product development and extensive knowledge of design risk evaluation and mitigation techniques
- Experience in full life cycle product development in both B2C and B2B
- Well organised with good communication and presentation skills and the capability to develop good people management skills
- Able to take on responsibility, work to tight deadlines, and put forward technical solutions
