JOB PURPOSE The Matron/Nurse Lead is responsible for the leadership and effective delivery of patient care for the Tissue Viability/lymphoedema caseload. The role leads and manages the clinical service in an efficient and effective manner whilst ensuring that the culture, standards and outcomes are developed, improved and maintained. This position also promotes clinical excellence through the provision of consistent specialised care, skilled communication and continuous professional development of staff. The Matron/Nurse Lead has responsibilities for ensuring Pioneer’s strict compliance and adherence to CQC standards and requirements as directed by the Ambulatory Lead.
The role works collaboratively to implement Quality Improvement and audit processes and systems within Pioneer for the purpose of promoting clinically effective and continuously improving care. It will also drive and help to continually embed Pioneer’s values; putting Patients First; effective Communication; invest in Staff Development; strive for Excellence; and advance practice through Research.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Clinical: Co-ordinate and evaluate patient care and outcomes and ensure safe discharge of patients in accordance with Pioneer Discharge Policy. Provide professional leadership, acting as the lead clinician who supervises staff, assessing, planning, implementing overseeing and evaluating programmes of care and advanced skills.
2. Communication: Use communication skills to convey complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers and other staff, overcoming any barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events.
3. Personal and People Development: Line manage and develop staff within a defined group via coaching and mentoring. Ensure that all staff attend organisation/local orientation programmes, mandatory training sessions and annual updates.
4. Health, Safety and Security: Maintain an open and transparent safety culture by embracing and embedding Freedom to Speak up Principles. Take responsibility for promoting a safe environment and safe patient care.
5. Service Improvement: Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of nursing practice, standards, guidelines, protocols, policies and care pathways.
6. Quality: Lead on Patient Safety Incident Review Framework (PSIRF) action plans, complaints and patient experience metrics.
7. Equality and Diversity: Carry out duties and responsibilities in line with the Pioneer Equal Opportunity policy.
8. Information Processing: Use electronic patient records (EPR), Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and develop other computer literacy skills.
9. Management and Leadership: Oversee and co-ordinate daily activity. Provide advice and support in a timely manner, prioritising workload, delegating, communicating and escalating effectively.
10. Safeguarding: Provision of care to meet health and wellbeing needs. All staff must be familiar with, and adhere to, Pioneer child and adult protection procedures and guidelines.
