Are you a person of integrity who is able to maintain confidentiality and remain impartial? Do you have experience in or a passion for governance, law, compliance or risk and keen to grow in an organisation that values your ambition and determination? We are seeking to appoint a Governance Partner to join our existing governance team at Laidlaw Schools Trust.
Laidlaw Schools Trust is a growing multi academy trust in the North East of England, serving children and families in the west of Newcastle, Sunderland and Sedgefield. We pride ourselves in being a progressive, inclusive trust that supports every child to develop their talents whatever they may be and to reach their academic potential. It is important that as a learning organisation we adapt and change to the needs of our pupils. We take care to value and develop all colleagues to make sure they can do their very best for children across the Trust’s schools.
Reporting directly to the Governance Manager, this role is wide and varied; you will support two regions of Local Governing Bodies (LGBs), clerking their meetings and ensuring records are regularly updated, in line with compliance and Trust policies. You will be the point of contact for trust complaints and permanent exclusions, providing guidance and support to necessary parties throughout these processes. You will provide training to trustees and governors, ensuring current knowledge in your specialised areas is provided to those people. You will have great interpersonal and communication skills and an understanding of statutory and legal requirements around governance. You will be brave and curious and not afraid to challenge the status-quo or accepted norms when providing support and solutions.
Working in partnership with key stakeholders, you will anticipate needs and provide a professional and joined-up service, turning ideas into actions. You will have the ability to handle complex situations with attention to detail and to prioritise and delegate in a fast-changing environment.
Developing and maintaining professional working relationships with key stakeholders including Chairs, Board members and Executive Leaders is essential to effectively influence and persuade where necessary. You will be keen to network with other governance professionals to ensure your knowledge and best practice is up to date.
Whilst our Head Office in Newcastle will be your main work base, this role is offered on a flexible hybrid basis and a mix of office and home working is supported. Some evening work may be required from time to time due to board timings.
Background and experience will be considered when it comes to working out a final employment package with the successful candidate.
