Main Purpose To work as a dynamic Speech and Language Therapist as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the therapy service based at Aurora Boveridge College and The Beeches School. To provide a high standard of Speech and Language Therapy to relevant students, parents, and carers in line with proposed treatment plans. Roles and Responsibilities With support from the Specialist SaLT, to manage a caseload of young people with complex needs within a special education setting. To complete appropriate assessment and treatment of the children and young people with a wide range of communication needs at the college. To liaise effectively with multi-disciplinary colleagues and to maintain associated records in line with professional codes of conduct. To support in the teaching of other members of the multi-disciplinary team on relevant aspects of Speech and Language Therapy. With support, to analyse and interpret assessments to recommend and deliver the best course of intervention for each child. With support, to formulate, evaluate and review individualised Speech and Language Therapy treatment plans, using clinical reasoning skills and utilising a wide range of treatment options to formulate a programme of care. To support the Speech and Language Therapy Team with the compilation of clinical governance information. demonstrate sound understanding of clinical governance and clinical risk and to demonstrate the use of treatment plans with an evidence-based link. To be responsible for the maintenance of accurate written records in line with professional codes of conduct. Maintain and update professional expertise and competence in line with requirements of continued professional development, analysing current research and discussing and implementing changes in clinical practice accordingly. Attend appropriate reviews and team meetings, promoting our culture of joint working with other disciplines and outside agencies. Advise and work with colleagues and Senior Leaders in regards to support plans and issues arising that relate to Speech and Language Therapy. To support the delivery of a Speech and Language Therapy service, which is run in an efficient manner so that young peoples needs are met effectively. To ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act and its amendments. Provide Speech and Language Therapy training, support and advice to members of the multidisciplinary teams. Delivery of both direct and indirect Speech and Language Therapy interventions. Multi-disciplinary working with staff teams target setting and supporting the delivery of individual programmes within the curriculum. Promotion of a Total Communication approach across the service. Multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working, to ensure joined-up management (for complex needs). Provision of advice and support to families, carers and other relevant parties. Delegation of tasks to the Speech and Language Therapy Assistant and other support staff. To contribute to the development of the wider service implementation plan in respect of Speech and Language Therapy input. To liaise with the other members of the Speech and Language Therapy Team to ensure appropriate caseload management and sharing of skills. To manage and prioritise a caseload according to individual needs, to ensure equitable service delivery. Produce timely and concise clinical recording, maintaining confidentially and the safe storage of both written and digital data. Liaise with other staff in order to set relevant communication targets in line with various frameworks. Plan, implement and review individual Positive Behaviour Support Plans, particularly as relates to communication, and provide accessible written guidelines that can be delegated and delivered by others. Regularly monitor and review outcomes and targets for communication aims/programmes and modify as required. Provide clear and concise written contributions for inclusion within Annual Review packs for students. Attend and contribute to Annual Review Meetings. Liaise and work with other relevant agencies or professionals to gain and share information as required, medical professionals, therapists, SEN Officers etc., to include attendance at appointments where necessary e.g. transitions meetings, CETR Meetings etc. Model good communication practice. Provide speech therapy interventions, as required for individuals, groups and within education areas. Provide screening assessment for prospective new students; this may include visits to other schools & residential settings. Recognise own professional boundaries with the role and when to seek appropriate guidance Attend and engage with Aurora Speech and Language Therapy Peer Supervision sessions. To undertake any other duties as may be deemed necessary. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential To be a registered member of RCSLT and HCPC. To hold a professional Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development. Experience Essential Experience of completing therapy the therapy process - assessment, goal setting, intervention, evaluation, as a Speech and Language Therapist, or during practice placements. Desirable Experience in working with autistic spectrum conditions including Aspergers syndrome, social and emotional difficulties, anxiety disorders and mental health needs. Experience of multi disciplinary team and multi agency working. Experience of preparing complex reports. Experience in implementing a wide range of approaches in supporting young people with social communication difficulties. Skills, Abilities, Knowledge Essential Knowledge and experience of working with people who have social communication difficulties and providing relevant intervention strategies. Fluent in written and spoken English with the ability to communicate complex information in a clear manner to a range of audiences including young people, parents, and professionals. Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to relate to others and develop good working relationships. Good time-management and organisation skills. Ability to organise and prioritise own workload. Ability to assess, devise and implement integrated therapy plans, based on identified needs. Ability to train staff in a variety of approaches. Ability to keep legible and accurate notes in line with professional record keeping requirements. Ability to cope with working in an environment which can be stressful and unpredictable. Good IT skills for administration, presentations, recording and reporting systems. Desirable Lone working experience. Knowledge of relevant legislation, current government initiatives eg EHCP, MCA Knowledge of strategies for behaviour management.
