Senior Quantity Surveyor Overview:
An opportunity to work for a leading main contractor covering Oxfordshire and surrounding areas, creating innovative spaces across the Commercial sector. This role is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially astute, experienced Quantity Surveyor with the ability to run several projects concurrently as a commercial lead for the business, reporting directly to the Commercial Director.
Senior Quantity Surveyor Responsibilities:
1. Be responsible for the compilation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as required.
2. Control all commercial tasks and responsibilities on large sites running concurrently.
3. Maintain all cost control procedures working within guidelines set out within company policy and procedures.
4. Ensure that all junior members of staff receive the required training and mentorship necessary to properly support the commercial team and wider business.
5. Be responsible for all cost control procedures, including managing and controlling budgets and valuations by updating estimated final costs while showing absolute cost and value reconciliation.
6. Contribute to design teams' conceptual planning to ensure design is kept within budgeted values.
7. Compile Site Start budget, liaising with all departments to ensure the document is completed on time to allow construction to commence.
8. Maintain budget control throughout projects to manage potential cost overruns within contingency levels.
9. Analyse and report on costs and cash flow using the support systems available.
10. Prepare tenders and procure sub-contractors, goods, and materials using company procedures.
11. Compile subcontractor recommendations for approval.
12. Process subcontract orders, payments, and variations, using Excel and company payment system in line with policy and procedures.
13. Evaluate and agree variations and instructions, always aware of budgetary constraints, ensuring that approval is obtained prior to agreement of variations in excess of the respective allowances.
14. Liaise with site personnel and subcontractors to maximise productivity.
15. Attend all project and team meetings as required, and present the Commercial position to the meeting.
16. Compile and present valuations at Divisional valuation meetings.
Senior Quantity Surveyor Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying.
2. Valid CSCS card.
3. Proven track record in a similar role within a main contractor.
4. Experience surveying Commercial projects.
5. Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail, able to gather, interpret and present data to facilitate preparation of budgets and subsequent valuations.
6. Strong IT skills, working knowledge of computer systems within the commercial environment, i.e., project management/payment and valuation software.
7. Strong communication skills, ability to build effective working relationships both internally and externally.
