The role:
Supporting maintenance, improvement, and expansion of the certified corporate Environmental Management System to ensure compliance and deliver continual improvement in environmental performance across the business.
What you’ll do:
1. Support the Environmental Compliance Manager to advance British Airway's sustainability strategy.
2. Support continual improvement of EMS based on IATA Environmental Assessment programme (IEnvA) standards to maintain certification.
3. Maintain manuals, issue environment notices and communication logs required by EMS
4. Develop manuals and resources including toolbox talks, standardised documents, briefing and training materials.
5. Support biennial EMS re-certification process.
6. Monitor legal compliance status of business areas, hold regular check-ins, track progress of “plan to green” and satisfactory closure of audit findings.
7. Support business areas by providing advice and guidance on compliance related matters and IEnvA requirements.
8. Support business areas in review of new and changed legislation to determine relevance and impact.
9. Conduct internal compliance audits of operational activities.
10. Support corporate audit team in conduct of internal EMS audit and annual external compliance audits
11. Produce materials for EMS governance meetings including annual Management Review
12. Work with business areas to deliver compliance to Buckingham Palace Declaration commitments, IENVA Illegal Wildlife Trafficking module and other biodiversity related requirements.
13. Act as IENVA co-focal including attending IEnvA Oversight Council meetings.
14. Participate in working groups and manage projects delivering EMS and sustainability strategy objectives.
What you’ll bring to British Airways:
15. In depth knowledge of environmental management systems including ISO14001 and environmental legislations.
16. Ability to build effective networks and relationships across all levels of an organisation.
17. Ability to work with matrix teams.
18. Excellent planning skills, highly organised and able to manage multiple ongoing projects.
19. Good data manipulation and analysis skills.
20. Confident communicator
21. Ability to use MS Office

22. Leading compliance with environmental legal requirements within an operational environment (. Packaging Regs)Implementing or maintaining an Environmental Management SystemDelivering internal auditsDegree level or equivalent experience in a relevant subject or extensive experience in environmental management
