Job Description
We are seeking a Power Electronics Test Engineer with a strong emphasis on lab-based testing, electrical testing, and fault finding. This role is perfect for an individual who enjoys hands-on work with electronic systems, ensuring that power electronics systems are tested thoroughly for functionality, reliability, and safety.
Working across multiple industries, including Marine and Defence, you will play a crucial role in the validation and troubleshooting of systems such as power converters, motor drives, and electrical systems. This position offers the chance to engage directly with hardware, diagnose complex issues, and provide feedback to improve the performance and reliability of products.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead hands-on testing of power electronics and electrical systems in a lab environment, ensuring systems perform according to specifications and safety standards.
2. Develop and execute test plans, including functional and performance testing for power converters, motor drives, and other related systems.
3. Use lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, power analyzers, and signal generators to conduct precise measurements and validate system performance.
Electrical Testing & Fault Finding
1. Perform electrical testing on both low-voltage and high-voltage systems, identifying issues and ensuring that systems are safe and functional under various operating conditions.
2. Troubleshoot system faults, diagnose complex technical problems, and implement effective solutions to ensure optimal system performance.
System Integration & Support
1. Support the integration of power electronics into larger systems, testing the compatibility and performance of systems when combined with other components.
2. Collaborate with engineers to validate designs through testing and provide input on potential product improvements based on test outcomes.
Lab Maintenance & Safety
1. Manage the test lab environment, ensuring that all equipment is maintained, calibrated, and ready for testing activities.
2. Ensure all testing procedures follow relevant health and safety protocols, particularly when dealing with high-voltage equipment.
Documentation & Reporting
1. Prepare detailed test reports, documenting testing procedures, outcomes, and any identified issues or inconsistencies.
2. Write technical documentation that outlines test results, troubleshooting steps, and suggestions for system improvement.
Customer Support
1. Provide technical support during customer-facing activities, including field testing and installation, ensuring that systems perform to customer expectations.
2. Assist in customer troubleshooting, offering hands-on solutions and advice to resolve technical issues in deployed systems.
Qualifications / Skills Required
Education
1. HND, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with a focus on electrical testing and electronics systems.
Experience
1. Proven experience in power electronics testing, fault finding, and lab-based testing of power converters, motor drives, or other complex electronic systems.
